I remove it from the planter once a week and take it outside and put it on a stand. Then I water it until the water starts coming out of the bottom of it. After that...I allow it to stay out there until it stops dripping and put him back inside.
Then...I bought another new plant. A baby one. The lady where I bought it said a fern would work really well in my bathroom because I don't have any windows in there. She also told me to take it outside and let it get some sun.
I read an article recently about improving the air quality in your home and how plants are VERY good at doing this for you. Turns out you need a plant ever 100 square feet of your home in order to do it to the standards of a NASA study on houseplants and air quality.
I don't know exactly how big our house is but I think it's somewhere in the 2,500 square feet range give or take. That would mean I would need 25 plants up in here for optimal use. Um...
I think I'm finally mature enough to care for plants the way they need to be taken care of but 25 of them is just crazy talk. LOL!
But...I'm going to buy more, of course, because now that I understand more about them...I want them in every room. I realize that I really like the way they look and I have a really good eye for choosing decorative planters for them which accentuate the decor I have going on up in here. I'm looking for something for our bedroom now. I want a big something and two little somethings. Maybe two big somethings. Wish me luck...I'm going out today to find some.
I've had some questions about what my makeup routine is these days so I decided to do a post. This is what I'm doing these days for a natural look. I think if you double click the picture it will pop out so you can read it better.
When I want to look more "made up" (like at night wearing fancy clothes) I start with a tinted moisturizer. My liquid foundations are no longer being used. I don't know why...I just stopped one day. The imperfections and wrinkles I have don't really bother me. LOL!
This entire process takes me less than 10 minutes to do. The most important thing, to me, IN MY OPINION...is that I don't wear makeup daily so my skin is in pretty good shape. I think if I wore makeup regularly I'd have to do more to it. IN MY OPINION.
When you're doing your makeup naturally...are there other things you do? Do you use a primer? I'm considering trying one (I got a freebie in a fancy swag bag that seems to be a good one) to see if it makes a difference. If you use a primer...what one do you use? Is it for all over or just eyes?
The thought process which sparked the debate on the article:
I wanted to develop a sense of misfit solidarity with your story and overlook some of the glaring, flaming triggers that kept ticking off to me, but I can’t. Today is the anniversary of the “I have a dream speech”, a day when we can remember the grave injustice that has been dealt to people of color. Reading your story reminds me of all of the black men who were tortured and killed because of what white women said, true or not.
Of the things that top my list this week of stuff I wouldn't give two shits about...Miley shaking her tail feathers. The million mamas mad. Black people mad. White people mad. Robin Thicke's mama mad. Twerking professionals mad.
We all know our history. We all benefit from it. 50 years ago today, the greatest movement of our day happened. The March on Washington.
FIFTY years ago.
I have Elders who were there. I have Elders who have been married 50+ years. I have friends who are over 50 years old.
50 years ago wasn't that long ago.
And I find that astonishing.
I read an article last week about a family of 25 Black people waiting to be seated at a restaurant. They waited for 2 hours because a patron complained that such a large number of Blacks together was dangerous.
If all couples knew that five years after they marry they will be having discussions regarding the first five years of their marriage, it may encourage both to be a little more patient, more understanding, love more and argue less.
Should there be a more radical change of the marriage vows, should they be more realistic?
Helen Goltz believes so, and because of her belief she has written a discussion paper on the current marriage license laws in Australia and on Fixed Term Marriage Contracts.
This discussion paper in based on the future of marriage licenses in Australia and also the abolition of such licenses in place of a fixed-term marriage contract of five and ten years with an option after this period of time. If both parties agree, and upon a successful ten-year marriage term, the couple can elect to have an ‘eternity’ contract.
Helen Goltz goes into greater detail of explaining exactly why this is essential and how the fixed-term marriage contract will be integrated within our lives. The details can be found on the internet under Fixed Term Marriage Contracts, if you wish to read it in its entirety, and it’s definitely a ‘must read.’
It makes perfect sense and little did I know when this idea dawned on me years ago that someone somewhere was actually doing something about it and started the ball rolling by doing this study and writing this discussion paper.
I asked someone today how was their daughter and she responded, "Oh, she's fine now. We're just waiting until the next bout of girl drama." And she laughed. Apparently...girls have far more drama than boys in her opinion as she is the mother to both. What say you? Do girls have more drama. What was the last bout of girl drama you had to deal with as a parent?
Recently I found out that the house style I'm most attracted to is the Shingle style house. Funny...cuz I didn't even know there was a style called the Shingle style. LOL! The homes I REALLY like are the Shingle styles with Arts and Crafts style influences. Yet another style I knew nothing about.
This particular house is my current obsession:
Robby doesn't like the placement of the garages. Prior to learning this, I thought my favorite house style was Craftsman.
What about you? What is YOUR favorite house style?
A friend just posted a picture with her new boyfriend on FB.
You comment on the picture saying something generic like they make a nice couple.
A friend of yours follows your comment and sees the picture of the guy.
She picks up the phone and calls you.
YEARS ago, she was being stalked by this crazy dude she ended up having to get a restraining order on.
You never knew old dude.
Turns out...old dude is the new boyfriend of your other friend.
The friend who called says to warn the other friend that he started off really nice and jumped snap crazy within a couple of months. Says when she filed for her restraining order...turns out other women had complained about him in the past as well.
I've never really used hair spray. When I used to get my hair done weekly down South...every time I tried a new hairstylist I had to remind them that I didn't like hair spray in my hair. My hair is thin and, to me...I feel like hair spray makes it a bit too stiff. When it's that stiff...the only thing I can do is wash it if I want it to be soft again and not hard.
So yeah...I never really used hair spray.
I wanted to do my hair in a pompadour kinda thingy with the back down and some loose beachy waves. Since it was raining...I knew the beachy waves would last for all of 6 seconds once I stepped out of the house. I thought to myself...gosh...I wish I had some hair spray and I went to the beauty sample basket to see if I'd procured some along the way and hadn't tossed.
Then...for whatever reason...I decided to look in the guest bathroom because folks who visit seem to always leave product-y stuff and I simply put it under the sink so when they return...all they have to do is look and yeah...BINGO...MY STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!
And guess what I found? HAIR SPRAY!!!!!!!!! Some kinda Suave hair spray in a dark pink bottle. I'm thinking it was really old because the sprayer didn't work so I had to pour some in a small travel sprayer bottle. GO ME!
I sprayed some on the brush for the pompadour and sprayed it directly on the back.
IT WORKED! My hair looked like I wanted it to look when I got where I was going! GO ME!
But I feel like I'm going to have to wash it tomorrow to get it back right. LOL!
So...what do you think about hair spray? Do you use it? What kind do you use? I never wanted to use it because of the alcohol. Is that a factor for you?
Were you MADE to do stuff you didn't want to do because your parents didn't want you sitting around doing nothing?
I know we had to do a physical sport and a club. My parents were ADAMANT about the physical sport even if you sucked at it. You had to DO something so you could learn how to be a part of a team and interact with people outside of the classroom. You were not allowed to do nothing and not have any obligations at all.
What about your parents? What about your kids? Did/do you require them to be active participants in organizations and sports at school? Why or why not?
The other day I read about the three teenagers who shot and killed Christopher Lane. Their story is that they were bored so they decided to kill somebody.
Christopher was running, exercising, and they shot him in the back with a .22 because they were bored.
15, 16 and 17 years old.
Only one pulled the trigger, but the other two went along with it. There didn't seem to be any discussion as to why they shouldn't do this. Just...bored and wanted some excitement. Cuz it's exciting to kill a man right? A man you don't know. A man with a life and a family. A man who would be missed by many. A stranger. Someone they didn't know. So...no empathy should be shown to him. No...respect. No general valuation of his life as a human being.
We're bored...let's go kill someone, not...we're bored...let's go ride our bikes. Or...let's go to the movies. Or...let's go swimming. Or...let's do something LEGAL and actually fun.
Let's kill someone instead.
My disgust is so deep it's a reservoir. What kind of people are the parents of kids who get bored and decide killing someone is the best alternative?
"One of the suspect's mothers told CBS affiliate KWTV in Oklahoma City her son and his friends were in a "wannabe gang." Police told KWTV the suspects may have killed an animal prior to shooting Lane, and that they planned on killing more people."
That shit pisses me off.
Make sure your kids have ish to do. Enrich their minds. Expose them to options. Encourage their dreams. Unless, of course, their dream is to be in a wannabe gang. *sigh*
You have a girlfriend who is dating a SUPER AZZHOLE!
She is constantly complaining about him to you.
You are always supportive and talk to her because you know she doesn't talk to anyone else.
You never, ever, ever say anything negative about SUPER AZZHOLE WHO NEEDS HIS AZZ WHUPPED AND SHE NEEDS HER BRAIN INSPECTED ASAP!
Is it EVER okay to just snap and tell her dude is an azzhole and is going to continue being an azzhole and ain't ish she can do about it unless she's cool with being with an azzhole and possibly marrying his azz?
