I was in a production meeting last night when the news came through regarding Bin Laden. We had like twenty things going on at once and I was on the phone. Folks started getting up from the table and Robby turned the television up. I'm justa talking on the phone about to cuss asking why in the hell is the television turned up so loud.
Seriously...people were speechless. I stood up with the phone and walked over to the television. I IMMEDIATELY got off. Once it registered we all started high-fiving and cheering and giving our President and our military mad props.
Did we keep working? Yes...but we still watched and I watched until I fell asleep.
I was STUNNED. Stunned I tell you. Would I have gone out to the White House had I been close enough to it to get there and back within 15 minutes? Yes. It was a significant moment in our time. It was closure of sorts to me and, even though it was kinda weird looking at the images this morning...I got it. I really, really got it.
I understood.
As a country we have a lot to work on. Hell...we know this. It only takes a stop at the gas station to see this in action right up close. But let's keep it real. This has been a blemish on us for a long time. It was a wrong we felt needed to be righted. Symbolic? Sure...but it's a damn good ass symbol to me.
If you've been reading this blog for a minute yall know I'm as patriotic as they come. I love my country. I love my fellow Americans when they aren't being stoopit. I love my President.
Hopefully this is the beginning of some well needed upstarts for us and our political contributions to the world. Some serious shit needs to be done about Pakistan and I know I, for one, will be very flipping curious to see how that plays out. They mad cuz we didn't inform them we were going in. Seriously? I'm mad the shit has been sitting there in plain daylight since 2005. Somebody knew something. Do I have solutions? Nerp. But I have confidence that our President is going to go about this using intelligence and without bravado. We don't need a 'MISSION ACCOMPLISHED' banner. We need to deal with things quickly and effectively keeping in mind respect for other people's customs.
Burying him at sea within the time frame their custom dictates? Smart foreign policy regarding a war time casualty and quite simply...GANGSTA! That's the way you do it. We don't need to drag someone's body around as proof. We need to show that we understand. We get it. Even as it means we GOT HIM.
GOD BLESS AMERICA!
