Scenario...

You're on a first date with a guy your bestie and her husband set you up on.

He comes to pick you up.

On the way to the restaurant you smell something FONKY.

He keeps it moving with the conversation so you figure you passed by something that smelled.

A few minutes later...you smell the same smell.

Dude keeps it moving...doesn't make any indication that he smells it too.

You get to the restaurant and...there goes that smell again.

Dude keeps it moving.

His azz is silent farting.

Do you say something?

Do you go out with him again?

Would you tell your friends who set yall up?

Acting While Black

After reading many, and participating in few, spirited Facebook exchanges regarding Meryl Streep going home with the Oscar instead of Viola Davis...I walked away pretty perplexed with a few of the comments I ran across.

This really stood out to me:

But perhaps it was Viola herself who most hurt her chances of winning Best Actress when, during her months-long Academy Award campaign, she made a point of taking a stand and lifting her voice about what black actresses face in the still lily-white Hollywood. Every time she found herself in front of a microphone, Viola reminded all those within the sound of her voice that times are still hard for black girls in Hollywood, where roles for African American women with dark skin and outside-the-mainstream beauty are sparse, underdeveloped, and meant solely to help white actors and actresses shine. She made a point, though, of acknowledging that despite Hollywood’s faults—despite the odds—a black actress who masters her craft can make any portrayal, whether it’s as a maid, a crack addict, a wise BFF or a love-starved single mother who doubles as the president, will be masterful at her job.

In other words, Viola Davis didn’t play the game; she called Hollywood on its bull, reminded everyone that she’s total badass at what she does, and showed up on the red carpet as her beautiful, natural self—chocolate, glistening and wearing her short, red-tinted afro, with her beautiful, chocolate glistening husband at her side. And honestly, I couldn’t be more proud of her for lifting her voice, being sure of her talent and beauty and insisting that we all get on board and accept her for being exactly who she is.

I'm curious as to what you guys think about this.  I mean...I saw both movies, "The Help" and "The Iron Lady."  Meryl Streep DID.THAT.  I mean...she BECAME Margaret Thatcher.  Viola is, obviously a talented actress too.  I mean hey...even Meryl Streep says that. 

Couldn't it have been as simple Meryl's performance was so good that she deserved the award?

Scenario from real life...

Your 14 year old daughter is a bit on the nerdy side and you love it.

She's smart and funny.

She's tall and skinny.

She wears glasses and her teeth aren't perfect.

She's beautiful to you, of course, but you can honestly say she has to grow into her features before others may see her surface beauty too.

She dresses neatly but has never shown an interest in labels.

She is EXTREMELY hormonal.

You go into her room one evening and find her on her bed in the dark. 

You turn on the light and she's crying.

She tells you she hates her life because she's ugly.

How do you handle?

Scenario...

Your husband agonizes over what to get his mother for Christmas as she is never satisfied.

You suggest a family portrait.

He gets that and she is overjoyed.

Your mother-in-law tells your husband's brother his girlfriend can't be in the picture because they aren't married.

Understandable.

On picture day, your parents, your husband's parents, your three children and your brother-in-law show up to take the picture.

Your mother-in-law refuses to take the picture because your parents are there and it is supposed to be HER gift and she just wants HER family in it.

You good?

Scenario...

You're the parents of twins.

One twin is behind the grading curve in pre-school.

The other is right on target.

The school decides the one behind the grading curve has to be held back in pre-school another year.

They reason that they are still very young and that it won't matter much in the long run.

The other twin can move ahead to kindergarten or...they both can stay behind so you don't have to separate them.

Married Friends

You know how you have different "groups" of friends?  Like...you have your book club friends, your ladies who lunch friends, your college friends, etc?

Well...I have a group of friends who bring me JOY.  I'm talking...the kinda joy you can't make up if you tried.  They're younger than I am and none of them are married and they have some very interesting ideas of what they think married life is like.

And it always makes me laugh.

For instance...they think only old people are married so I have to remind them I was about their age when I knew my guy was the one.  They also think marriage is boring.  Like we sit around burping and farting all day saying nothing to each other.  Now...there is burping and farting mind you...but it's okay cuz ain't nobody trying to get air bubbles in their chest and stomach trying to pretend they don't have to burp or fart.

Nail Polish

Kale Chips

My absolute fave kinda chips!

Toss some kale with a tablespoon of olive oil and sea salt. Place on top of parchment paper on a baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 15 - 20 minutes or until the edges are brown. 

Will totally satisfy the craving for something crunchy and salty. I promise!

"Bully" - The Weinstein Company

WARNING. If your child bullies one of my nephews or one of my Godsons I am checking for YOU.

Not your kid...YOU.

I understand teaching a child to fight their own battles and all that mind you...but sometimes a parent who has had their azzes WHUPPED one way or the other will have a way of getting their kid to understand that being a bully might not be the best they can be.

Check your kid if they are being a BULLY.  Don't get YOUR azz kicked cuz of some kiddie ish and don't let the suburban life fool you.

Yesterday sherri said something which really made me go hmmmmmmmm...

What is YOUR thought on how non-involved fathers continue to be able to date?  What kind of woman is okay with this?  I mean...ESPECIALLY if she's a mother herself and knows what all it takes to take care of a child? 

What's even MORE confusing to me is how these SAME MEN can parent the child of the woman they are with (who isn't their child) and still neglect their OWN children.

Where does that come from?????
