Did your parents go to the Meet and Greet during registration at your college?  Did you go to one for your kids?

Most of you here have read the bible. I'm pretty sure of it. So have I. Cover-to-cover, several times. Highly engrossed each time. Learning, face scrunching, etc...
So...here is my question to YOU...
How do YOU, based on your faith and belief, choose what to take from it as God's law? Am I the only person who can't get down with a lot of the stuff the bible states? Take that part about being dirty during Midol Week or that part about a man being able to stone and return a woman in disgrace to her father if she's not a virgin on their wedding night...I mean...I know yall don't get down with that stuff either right? Even though it is in the bible right there for all the world to see.

I remember someone with short hair telling me once that I shouldn't cut my hair because it was a sin. The irony of that one STILL floors me. 
That whole "obey" the man thing? I've seen lots of bat shit crazy azz men try to make that one stick because it is supposedly in the bible. Hell...truth be told I remember my father beating the shit outta my mother quoting that one. 

So again...my question to you, as I know many of you are Christians...how do you pick and choose, from the bible, what to follow as God's law? How do you justify to God and to yourself what to allow to "evolve" and what to follow to the letter?

Is it okay to THINK something if you don't SAY it or write it for others to see or it just as bad if it's something negative?

Does it mean that you're simply mature enough to have a catty thought and then take the time to process the thought and realize it's inappropriate?

Do those INITIAL thoughts say more about who we are as a person than we are willing to admit?

I don't know about you but I've enjoyed watching little Miss Gabrielle Douglas fly through the air flipping and twisting and then BAM! STICK IT!  This lil girl has been bringing me JOY!  I love when she gives her interviews and she's all sweetly confident.  I love how she is so supportive of her teammates.  I love how she speaks about how much she loves what she does and how honored she is to represent our country in the Olympics.  When she's kinda wobbly...I'm holding my breath and breathing hard, praying she recovers.  When she hits something just right...I am yelling at the top of my lungs.  GET.IT.GABBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  SHOW 'EM HOW TO DO IT!  USA!  USA!  USA!

In short...she is QUITE impressive and I LOVE.ME.SOME.GABBY!

I read something yesterday about the 16 year old's hair that made me stop. Then I asked Mr. Google if other people were saying negative things about her hair and was FLOORED with what I found.

FLOORED.

So yeah...I got annoyed at just how inappropriate people can be with the things they were saying about a 16 year old WORLD.CLASS.ATHLETE.

Did YOU pay more attention to her hair or to her skills and her confidence in her ability?

Did you hear others ridiculing the child because of her hair?

If you did...did you say something to counter it?

What do you think about the entire situation?

My Own Health Advocate

I've been going to the doctor since around February for something that I KNOW is wrong with but nobody can pinpoint.  Sure...they all admit something isn't right but no one has any concrete answers.

And that's kinda frustrating.

I've been given different medications and I've taken the stuff that made sense.

The stuff that didn't make sense for something they couldn't even pinpoint however?

*HARD.STARE*

I'm not taking that.

It just seems to be odd to me that you don't know what's wrong...but this medicine MIGHT fix it.

Last weekend my cellphone took a swim in a toilet so I had to go get a new one.  My old phone was a Motorola Droid 2 Global and I'm not the type to get a new phone just cuz a new one came out.  I get a new phone when my old phone no longer works.

AND IT NO LONGER WORKED.  

*sigh*

I trotted off to Verizon early Sunday morning and sized up the new phones.  The only one with a keyboard AND on the 4G network was the Motorola Droid 4.  

Hey...I'm old.  I need a keyboard to feel like I'm typing.

MOVING ON!  LOL!

So I decided to get it.

Then I asked if they were going to give me a deal on buying batteries because I owned 4 batteries for my Droid 2 and I always run out of battery power before the end of the workday.

And the bottom dropped out.

Um...Ms. Mingo...the battery is built in.  It doesn't come out.

Crap.  Imma be one of those people always hunting down an outlet.  *sigh*

I'm extremely forgetful so that thought scared me so I decided to get me a juice pack and I'm super happy with it.  GO ME!  Mophie Powerstation

I totally understood what she said about Dan Cathy making it so you can't look the other way anymore.  I get that.  I TRULY get that.  Also...I wouldn't want someone I love, who happens to be gay, to ever think I loved and supported processed chicken more than I loved and supported them.  So yeah...I'm good on no more Chick-Fil-A for me.  He can choose his beliefs and I can choose where I spend my money and it's just that simple.

Hey...it was the only fast food restaurant I still go to anyway because I LURVE me some waffle fries  so yeah...it's not like it's going to kill me and I'm sure my 6 piece kids pack with lemonade isn't going to bend them at breaking point.

Scenario ...my son is 24 years old ....he bought a car from my friend ..(we have been friends since the 3rd grade....we are now in our mid 40's). When he came back with the car he asked me, "was ___ ok because she was acting weird". I said, "she's always been a little weird thats just ___".......

I later find out that she offered him her "special purpose".
(He didn't tell me he told his sister). 

I know but I don't know so I don't say anything ....I haven't spoke to ____ in 3 months, because I know I'm go far left and like SIP Im really trying to stay on the peace and light tour 2012. 

Fast forward to Mon Jul 23, 2012..._____ text me in a flirtatious manner ...Telling me although I didn't take what she offered last time her door is open anytime....I text back wtf....She then text oh this not El...I say no its his mother, she doesn't answer.

My instincts tell me to cuss the "ho" out ...please some insight would help here.

Hmmmmm...Aurora Murders

I've read a few things about the shooting in Colorado which have me really thinking.

Folks are saying things like...the media's description of the killer has been completely different and, even thoughtful and respectful, because the killer was White.

I've seen a couple of meme's which say something like...

If the killer had been Black the media would describe him as a "violent killer probably on drugs."

If the killer had been Latino the media would describe him as "probably an illegal immigrant who shouldn't be in the country in the first place."

If the killer had been Muslim, the media would describe him as "a terrorist and there are probably more like him here."

But since the killer was White, he is described as "a PhD student with good grades."

They also state that had the killer been anything BUT White...he would have been killed.

Have YOU seen these too?

Scenario from real life...

You hire a friend to do something you usually hire someone else to do.

Nothing that requires technical skills.

They just need to do what you've asked them to do.

Simple.

You hire the friend because you know the friend is going through it and they need the money.

You actually felt bad that you didn't think of the friend in the first place.

You find out afterward that the friend didn't do things the way you asked them to be done.

They basically did what THEY wanted to do.

End result was minor damage but nothing you couldn't live with.

But you were pretty damn salty.

You've stayed away from the friend until you come to terms with your anger because you know that you will end up being very hurtful if you ever say something before you've dealt with your anger.

But you're about to see the friend at something.

And you're still mad because it was fugged up, disrespectful and there could have been MAJOR damage because of the friend's actions.

Would YOU ever say anything or would you chalk it up to a lesson learned and if the friend asks why you didn't hire them again...would you just tell them then?

Joint Utilities

At 13700 both of our names are on the utility bills so that either of us can call in and change anything anytime it's necessary.

Just seemed to make sense when I was setting them all up initially.

I was talking to someone who couldn't deal with something at her house because her soon to be ex wasn't returning her calls.  His name is on the account.

Toaster Oven

A few months ago E was trying to make a pizza in the toaster oven.  He kept saying he'd done everything correctly but it wouldn't come on.  I mostly ignored him because he's at that age where he's forgetful of anything that someone else can do for  him so when I finally went over to check...imagine my surprise when I found it was kaput.  For realz.

I made his pizza in the oven for him.  UGH!  Heating up my dang house!

I didn't go right out and get a new one that day and felt like we'd survive.

The next morning I was awakened by banging and slamming in the kitchen.  I'd forgotten to tell The Robinator about the toaster oven and he was trying to make toast. Later that evening I wanted to broil two pieces of salmon and realized I'd have to use the oven cuz again...the toaster oven wasn't working.

And I realized I needed to go buy a new toaster oven STAT cuz we use it far more often then I think about.

Going to buy a new toaster oven turned out to be far more work than I realized.  Seems in the 10 years there had been a lot of changes and upgrades.  There were convection toaster ovens, high watt ones, etc. and I was all confucious with the options.  I'm not really all that tech savvy about ovens and whatnot so I was standing there looking at the options blinking.  I called Robby at the office.

Me:  Um...I need help with buying a toaster oven.

Robby:  Da hell?

Me:  Yeah...there's a lot going on with toaster ovens now.

Robby:  Monnie...I'm at work.  Get one that makes toast, pizza for the knucklehead and that you can still do your fish in.  That's all we need.

And he was right.  That's all we needed. Cuisinart Classic Toaster Oven / Broiler

So that's all I bought and it's been working FABULOUSLY for all involved.

I know I don't really know you but I've been reading your blog for a long time and have even spoken to you on the phone before and I know that you are a good, honest person with a kind heart.

I'm going through a divorce right now and it is really kicking my behind.  I'm so messed up.

He left my son and I in a dangerous situation in a neighborhood with drug dealers in front of our home while he sleeps elsewhere.  He ignores my texts and calls.

He is trying to take my house from me which was willed to my siblings and I, but my husband and I took a mortgage out on it and bought them out.  In that process, I put him on the deed.  I took all my money, rolled it into the renovation... long story short, he half demoed the house and stopped the renovation...stopped paying the mortgage, has liens pending on the house due to non payment of utilities.

I'm tied up financially trying to pay lawyers to fight him, keep my home and our son.

My father took my son and I in until this is sorted out.  I'm sorry to vent this mess to you and don't know what I expect you to say.

I see how you were able to dig yourself up and into a good life and I'm asking you, how do I go on from here?

You're at the gym and pick up a towel.

The towel has stains on it.  

You don't say anything because this is the first time you've seen stains on a towel at your gym.

A week later you pick up a towel and it has stains on it.

You show it to a gym employee near you and get a pretty nonchalant response regarding.

After your workout you get a fresh towel and there are stains on it as well.

You pay a premium to be a member of this gym because of the usual level of cleanliness.

I've been married for two years now and we're beginning to have some issues with communication that I want to nip in the bud.  One of the main things I love about this blog is that there seem to be so many happily married women and I'm hoping some of you can help me get my husband to do things he doesn't want to do but that he should do.  He's a great provider and a good man but he can be lazy at home and I don't want to always be the only one in our marriage putting in the work around the house.

My question is, how do you get your husbands to do things they say they are going to do but never do without it being considered nagging?
