GO TO THE DAMN DOCTOR HELL!

Someone was telling me about a single mother diagnosed with Stage 4 Terminal Cancer recently.

I *BLINKED* and got upset.

That didn't have to happen.

Stage 4?  Come on now...to get to that stage you had to know something was outta whack right?  Why not go to the doctor?  If no insurance...they do screenings at Planned Parenthood.  Now she has babies who will be without their mother soon.

THIS HURT MY HEART SO BADLY!  IT DIDN'T HAVE TO HAPPEN LIKE THIS!  EARLY DETECTION IS KEY TO SURVIVAL!!!!!!!!!  GO TO THE DAMN DOCTOR HELL!

I know someone who was showing clear signs of having had a stroke.

But kept refusing to go to the doctor.

YOU CAN'T EVEN WALK UPRIGHT!

I know someone who had been in AGONIZING PAIN but didn't tell anybody asking Mr. Google and whatnot.

They have GOOD insurance.

They were in pain for WEEKS before they said something to somebody.

WHAT IN THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?

YOU CAN'T EVEN HOLD UP YOUR DANG HEAD!

THAT'S NOT HOW YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO FEEL!

THAT MUCH PAIN MEANS SOMETHING IS WRONG.

This kinda ish frustrates the pig ish outta me.  If something is wrong with me...I'm going to the doctor and I'm going to continue going to the doctor until they find out what's wrong with me no matter how frustrated we all get.  Doctors exist for a reason.

USE THEM!

And stop doing things you know good and well are going to have you crooked the hell over as you get older.  That's selfish.  Someone else is going to have to take care of your azz for years behind you CHOOSING to do unhealthy crap now.  That's some selfish ish right there.  You wanna smoke...then keep smoking hell.  Mess around and get tossed in a state run old folks home cuz can't nobody stay at home to take care of you.

Do YOU know anyone like this?  They know good and damn well something ain't right and yet they won't go to the damn doctor?  UGH!

I'm pretty sick of people tossing around the word LOVE and using it the wrong way.  People running around not knowing what in the hell love actually is make my teeth itch.  All them hurt feelings and tears?  Unless you have a disorder of sorts...what you're feeling is not love.  Stop wishing someone would do right by you.  DON'T DEAL WITH SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T DO RIGHT BY YOU!  Where is this coming from?  Why don't people know what love is and how to do it?

Do you have anyone in your life who is constantly in a negative place and yet you love them?

Like...they are family, framily (friends who are more like family) or a friend and you want the best for them so you continue to try and be there for them but it's proving to be a challenge because their brand of negatively can take a toll on the most patient and loving person?

Have you found anything that works? Any tips? Any of you been that negative person before? What ended up being the reset button for you?

I arrived this morning dressed in a puffy vest and jeans with my boarding pass printed at BWI airport.  I walked up to the flyby entrance and was addressed by Carol who asked if I had my boarding pass.  I told her that I did and continued walking to the flyby entrance juggling my backpack, purse and suitcase.

Carol:  You're going to the wrong line.

Me:  No I'm not.

Carol:  Well you're being rude.

I looked at her, opened my mouth and then closed it and continued on.

I checked my bag and asked to speak with a manager about Carol.  The manager went over to speak with her and she looked like she was giving HIM the business.

This is my first time sending in a formal email complaint to you because it's rare that I encounter a rude and belligerent Southwest employee.  I will admit that I wondered what it was about my appearance which made Carol assume I was headed the wrong way when I had my boarding pass in my hand.  She could have alleviated the situation by simply looking down at it or asking me to hand it to her.

I said all that to say...it's too early for all that attitude from someone supposedly servicing your customers.  She should NOT be in the first line of customer contact if she has a nasty attitude.

Oh...and while I'm "officially" writing you...would it be possible for you guys to get consistent with the companion travel guidelines?  Some flight attendants allow your companion to board with you and some don't.  It seems to be random and up to the whim of the person taking the ticket.  It's kinda crazy to make our companions board without us since we're just going to save them a seat anyway so yeah...maybe consider that as well as you're reading about Carol and her disposition this morning.

Over the weekend I traveled to Houston for Cojoe's son's dedication and to be named his Godmommy.  Robby was scheduled to go too but we couldn't find a dog sitter we trusted with Lucy (she's gotten way worse) and well...yall know Lucy rules 13700 so we had to cancel his flight.

My sister picked me up on Friday and we had a lovely late lunch and then we headed over to Cojoe's and hung out while they were getting ready for Saturday's festivities.

Saturday was a blast.  After the church ceremony there was a crawfish boil/cook out.  Sitting in the midst of the framily and family I love the most-est-est was awesome.  Watching their kids enjoy each others company, listening to them talk and laugh was exactly what I needed.  We stayed and talked and chatted until way late and then went out for drinks and, as Weezy says, HORSDIVVERS.  LOL!

On Sunday, Weezy 'nem had a cookout at their home and we all ended up over there.

Man...it was AWESOME.SAUCE!

Temperatures in the 80's.  Good food...good company...all of that.

And while there I got a Winter weather advisory text stating we were getting snow back home.

WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!  (Note sarcasm.)

Not being able to have children so far is a blow to us still you know?  Having Godbabies seriously makes it better.  My boys, E, K & L are seriously joy!

AND COLEY WILL BE HERE NEXT WEEK!  (But Imma fight him.  Watch and see if I don't.  LOL!)

 

 

Scenario from real life...

You take a family trip with your dog.

The hotel you're staying in is a pet friendly property.

You leave the hotel for some sightseeing and do not take your dog.

You return and there is a note saying that your dog has been placed in doggie daycare.

You go down to the front desk and you're told that your dog was barking and they received complaints so they removed the dog from the room.

Doggie daycare is a dark closet.

Without food and water.

You good?

I know there is a trend where couples are asking for donations to be made to certain personal funds instead of sending a gift to the wedding.

What do YOU think about this?  Is it a no-no to ask for money in YOUR opinion?

Burly Dude

So...how's your morning going so far?

Lemme tell you about mine.

So...I'm one of the first people to board the plane and get comfortable in my seat.  

Everyone gets on the plane and we're about ready to go when I notice the row in front of me is having a pow-wow with a stewardess.  I hear the stewardess say..."Well...we can't leave until you guys figure it out and one of you moves."

So I started paying attention cuz yeah...I wanted to get home.

Turns out the guy who boarded in front of me beelined it for his favorite seat.  You know...the two seat row.  

He got comfortable and then another passenger ended up sitting next to him.

In my row, there was no one in the center seat and I had the aisle.  

I was muy comfy.

The two dudes started arguing.

The gentleman who sat down later was um...erra...burly.

The first dude was NOT amused that burly dude was all over him.

The flight wasn't full so he asked the stewardess to try and figure something out.

The stewardess was like...well...one of you have to move cuz yall are arguing.

And we weren't going to get to take off.

They holding up the flight and ish.  

Both of them talking some...well I ain't moving.

First dude is like...I was the first person on this plane.  I shouldn't have to move.

I get that.  We fly a lot in order to get to board first.

So I tapped first dude on the shoulder and was like...you wanna switch with me cuz I'm smaller and it would be more comfortable for yall if I sat there.

Dude was like...thank you, but I shouldn't have to move at all.

I'm like...I understand but seriously...we're not trying to NOT take off because yall are arguing.

So we moved.

I get in my new seat and burly dude is still mad.

He is sprawled all over everywhere spread out to the max.

So I got comfy and told him...Now look...we aren't gonna have any problems are we?  Cuz seriously...I just wanna get home.

Dude was like...no...we aren't going to have any problems.  That dude was an azz.

(The dude can hear him behind us mind you.)

I don't say anything and then...burly dude adjusts himself.  

He pulls himself up so he's not all over my seat, he moves his arm up on the armrest so I can get a corner of it in the back...you know...about two inches worth.  

I notice the title of the book he's reading and it's something about living in the post Jim Crow world.

Hmmmmmmmmmm...

Dude behind us is still mad.

And now I'm annoyed because post Jim Crow dude is listening to his music so loudly I can hear it over my music, he's asleep and, once again, he's sprawled all over everywhere all loose and free and whatnot.

And I mean really.

Sometimes people make shit too hard and it makes me question if they ever figure out that life would be so much more pleasant if they just behaved courteously and knocked that fugging chip off their shoulder.

*sigh*

I'm sure he's gonna start being rudeish in 5, 4, 3, 2...

Now...I'm not as polite as the guy behind us and we all know I will utilize my colorful Louisiana vocabulary to speak to him clearly should the occasion call for it and there are no children around.

Why is it so damn hard for some people to just be a good person and not be a jerk on a damn 2.5 hour flight?  Sheesh.

UPDATE:  I just returned to my seat from the restroom (dude didn't move as I got up so he got stepped on...AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!) and the other guy was waiting in line for the restroom as well.  He'd written me a lovely note and included drink coupons.  I don't have the heart to tell him I have a half inch stack of drink coupons I haven't used because I know he was just trying to offer up a nice gesture as thanks for my moving.  I'll pay those drink coupons forward.

You don't hear from one person you reconnected with again until today when you receive an email blast you're included on that announces their wedding and includes the information to send a donation for their honeymoon.

You receive a call from a family member who says they need a favor.
You're listening.
While you're on the call, another family member calls but you don't answer.
The family member you're on the phone with asks can they borrow $300.
You say okay because they've never asked before and always seem to be together.
They are on their way to pick up a check.
You call the other relative back and they were calling to warn you that the other relative was going to call and ask for money and that you should say no.
Apparently the person has borrowed money from everyone in the family for the past 6 months lying about the reason because they have a gambling addiction.

At 3:16am Lucy jumped from her bed to Jaru's bed.  He yelped and jumped up so I jumped up and turned on the light.

Lucy was turning herself around and around in his bed and he was looking at her like...DUDE...WTF?

Robby jumped up and was all confused like...HUH?  HUH?

Then Lucy got comfortable in Jaru's bed and laid down like she was about to go back to sleep.

I'm looking from her to him and back again and then Robby tells Jaru to get in her bed.

Jaru looks at him and then me...then back to Lucy and goes over to get in her bed.

But you can tell he's pissed.

Hell...I get it.  I was pissed too.

Everybody got up mad this morning except her.

Spring Seedlings!

This year, instead of dropping a few hundred on flowering plants for my planters and pots, I decided to start seedlings of flowers.  In the past I've only done this for herbs so I'm kinda excited to see how they turn out. I planted them on Sunday and they are already sprouting in the Jiffy Greenhouse and make me happy.  I choose seeds of all purple flowers since I love purple flowers in the front of the house.  I'm going to do red and fuchsia for the deck.  Cool huh?

Would you do this instead of the Spring trek to Home Depot or the nursery for flowering plants to spruce up for Spring?

#Soft Kids

I'm working on something about "Soft Kids" in response to things I've seen and heard for a minute now especially here on the blog.

I don't know many teenagers who are together you know?  Like...if they had to strike out and do some things on their own...they'd be azzed out because it seems their critical thinking skills just aren't all that great it seems. You know...like the stuff that is important to them doesn't help them develop these skills at all and well...they seem throwed the hell off more and more.

I've been around kids who can't even remember where the vehicle was parked that the just got out of 10 minutes ago.  Like...they don't even remember what the vehicle looks like even if they've been in said vehicle a gamillion times before.  How do you not notice what kinda car you ride in?

And the bullying.  Yes...it's a big f'ing deal in lots of instances but kids can't seem to even be able to figure out how to flip the script.  I said something to a friend recently about an instance where a girl was deciding that a random day was "IGNORE A CLASSMATE DAY" and she'd just pick someone and all of the kids would ignore that kid all day.  My friend immediately said...the kids need to find out something about her life that would embarrass the shit outta her and tell the other kids.  I mean sure...it's not an ideal solution but would it have worked?  Probably.  Did the kids think of this?  No.  Just no counter action AT.ALL. and let the chick rule the classroom being evil.

I know I get annoyed with E and he's a pretty smart kid.  LIke...if I tell him to do something I have to tell him all of the steps to do it.  I can't just say, E...take the garbage out.  I have to say, E...take the garbage bag out of the can and tie it up, look under the sink and get another garbage bag and put it in making sure you tuck the top around the top of the can, close the lid, take the bag out to the outside garbage can on side of the house and put it in the can and then put the top back on it.

If I don't say it SPECIFICALLY like that...some bullshit is gonna go down that will make me question his sanity.

Having this conversation with my friends uncovered a whole gamut of things they are  disappointed in with teenagers of today being soft.  One friend feels like her friend isn't a fighter and she blames herself.  She says that every problem he's ever had she's been able to throw money at it because she wanted to be a good parent and give her child the tools to succeed.  If he was having trouble in class she hired him a private tutor or put him in an after school tutoring program for additional help.  She says he's okay with just doing okay when she's competitive as hell and want him to be as well.

One friend shared the differences between her and her brother.  How she has IT but her brother doesn't even though they were raised by the same mother.

And it goes on and on.

What, in your opinion, makes some kids SOFT and unable to figure ish out?  How can the same kids be raised in the same environment yet one be SOFT and the other not?  How can a kid who has a parent who has always excelled and whose parent has always focused on their CHILD excelling...end up being SOFT?

How to make Homemade Toffee!

It's Midol Week for me and, as always, I was craving chocolate big time last night.

But we didn't have any chocolate.

I have an aversion against leaving my home at night so I sat here trying to figure out what to do.

Then I realized I had all the ingredients I needed in order to make toffee.

So...at 9:30 last night...I decided to make toffee.

HURSH!

Step 1:  Pour a bag of slivered almonds on a baking sheet and bake for 8 minutes at 350 degrees.  

Listen up...if you've never roasted almonds you're missing out on the best.smell.ever!  Gosh they smell pretty goodly!  Like...I was inhaling them big time!  (Note...they taste good too which is why I was missing a solid handful by the time they made it into the blender.  LOL!)

Step 2:  Put the almonds in the blender or food processor and chop finely. 

Step 3:  Spread half on a baking sheet.

Step 4:  Add one stick of unsalted butter (sliced into pieces),  1-1/4 cup of packed light brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of water, 1 tablespoon of light Karo corn syrup to a pot and stir bringing to boil.  Once it boils, put the top on it for 1 minute (gotta evaporate all the sugar on the sides of the pot).  Then let it cook for about 3 more minutes.  (I don't have a candy thermometer so I just kept cooking it until it looked right.)  

Phone rings.  It's Shelly.

Shelly:  Whatchu doing?

Me:  Making toffee.

Shelly:  DA HELL??????????  Who the hell makes TOFFEE??????????????????

Me:  I wanted chocolate.  I had all the ingredients for toffee.  Midol Week.  

Shelly:  Oh.  I understand.

Me:  I gotta go...it's boiling and I gotta pay attention.

Step 5:  Add 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of vanilla and mix quickly.  Remove from heat.

Step 6:  Pour hot mixture over almonds and spread as evenly as possible.

Step 7:  Pour chocolate chips over super hot mixture.  They will start to melt and you can spread the chocolate over the mixture evenly.

Step 8:  Spread remaining almond crumbs on the top.

Step 9:  Place in fridge until chocolate hardens.

Step 10:  Fall asleep before chocolate hardens so you go to bed cuz ain't nobody got time for that at 10:30pm.

Step 11:  Wake up the next morning and notice that SOMEONE has already tried a piece of the toffee by breaking off a big hunk.

Step 12:  Break it up and put it in a container.

Step 13:  Plan to enjoy some during the day cuz really...it's too early to have toffee.

Water Intake

I drink two of these a day.  40 ounces each.  I start drinking after breakfast and usually finish my second bottle around 7 or 8ish at night.  

The earlier the better.

I take the bottle with me everywhere.

The only thing is...I have to get up at least twice per night out of the bed to use the bathroom.  Robby doesn't think it's normal to wake up to use the bathroom.  

What say you?  Given the amount of water I drink...do you think it's normal?

Dude Date Fashion

You're meeting a guy for coffee for a first meet and greet on a Saturday afternoon.  

You met him online.

He calls an hour before you are to meet to tell you he's running late.

He went to the gym and ended up running over and has to go home to shower and change.

He can meet you an hour after.

When he shows up, he's wearing sweats, a tank top, a flannel button down shirt that is open, sneakers and a baseball cap.
