It's been a rough couple of weeks you know? Between the Supreme Court decisions, the transcript of Paula Deen's deposition, the Trayvon Martin case and the 19 firefighters killed...yeah...it's been pretty taxing on the spirit when you're someone who tries to focus on the good in the world even as you know there is so much bad.
And we got some family news yesterday which kinda shook us.
It's like...raining, raining, pouring, pouring.
Being down South with my people makes me wish we were closer to them. There is a peace about being with people who KNOW you know you. Who aren't trying to pick your brain about where you've been or where you come from because they KNOW you and have known you forever. They know where your heart truly lies and recognize your intentions without turning it into a question of motive.
Spending time with kids I love is so priceless to me and I take the time to sit in the grass and listen to them even if they can't talk yet. LOL! I just chill to those baby coos and look into their eyes. Having a baby look up at you from across the room and head in your direction smiling, crawling, pulling themselves up by your shorts to get you to pick them up is seriously the best feeling. Having them put their little hands on your face and make that rapid breathing in and out through their nose as they scrunch up their little face laughing is priceless and having them put their little head on your shoulder knowing they are perfectly safe with you is just...wow.
Talking to my Golden Boy about being on the swim team and his tennis lessons and how his backhand is so much stronger than his forehand. Man...
My husband picking up the phone just because he missed my voice and hadn't heard it in a couple of hours.
My sister catching me up to speed on dating.
The new babies coming and their mommies.
My baby cousin getting promoted. Again. Blazing the trail up that corporate ladder.
My best dudes consistently succeeding in life.
Just all of it. Taking it all in. Inhaling. Exhaling.
Those are the types of things I focus on when the world is getting squirrely and we don't know what's what and what's coming next.
What about you? What do you find yourself focusing on when your spirit is getting murky from things in the world?
