Unlike, OBVIOUSLY, many others, I actually read the story about the Boston bomber in your magazine.   Personally I think it's important to show him as the normal, regular looking dude he appeared to be so we all know to stay aware and be alert because of potential wolves in sheep clothing so I guess that's why it made sense to me. The boogie man doesn't often look evil. 

I'd think more people would feel that way and am honestly confused to find they don't.  I guess it's just as simple as realizing that people don't read anymore.  They match a soundbite to a visual and VIOLA!  Outrage.  Most of the time the soundbites are from people who didn't read as well or from people who were PAID to read it and CRAFT the soundbites which would deflect from the REAL STORY.  

Just like the Paula Deen fiasco.  Folks saying she made a mistake years ago by using that word...obviously didn't read the full transcript of her deposition.  Cuz yeah...there was far more going on than her using a bad word years ago.

Join me.  How?  Just decide to be happy.  Don't let the news or anything you can't control steal your joy on this beautiful day.  Just be happy.  Smile, laugh, read funny stories.  Just be happy.  Tell someone you appreciate them.  Give munchy kisses to your loved ones.  Lay on the floor next to your dog.  Just be happy today.  Don't worry about the heat...it's summer...it happens.  If anything happens, focus on the positives.  Car breaks down?  Thank goodness for roadside assistance.  Left your lunch at home?  Drink water and think about dinner.  Kids sick?  They will let you snuggle more.

Pedicure Sandals

Do you have pedicure sandals or is it just me? I hate those paper sandals from the salon so I take these. When I'm going to do my nails at home...I wear these then too. I HATE thong sandals and only wear them for fresh pedis. Weird huh?

One young man used the word I despise twice.  All caps.  He was mad and calling for folks to rise up and get mad.

The Usual Suspects without our Deltas!

When this was scheduled I had no idea that htis weekend was the Delta's big anniversary weekend so here we are minus our Deltas.  As always we had a blast eating, drinking and having girl talk from relationships to career to waxing. 

Yes...I said waxing.

Moving on!  LOL!

We had Bellini's and Mimosas with pineapple juice and these heavenly Bloody Mary's that The Travel Diva went inside to the Bloody Mary cart/bar and made for us.

Bow down to her BM skills.  LOL!

Of course we always act silly as hell and we've promised to get back on track with our monthly lunches, dinners, etc.  You never really know how much you miss folks until you're with them enjoying the hell out of them ya know?  If you have some friends you feel the same about...call them up and set something up.  It's worth it.  Promises!

Best Thing EVER!

I replaced the towel rack in the basement guest bathroom with this and it's turned out to be the BEST.THING.EVER!  

Usually when we have guests who are staying in the basement, it's more than one person so having multiple hooks for multiple towels really makes sense!

I can't believe I never thought of this before!

Scenario from real life...

A man can't cook.

His mother lives in another state but is a good cook.

He always goes on and on about how well his mother cooks and how much he loves a good home cooked meal.

His mother comes to visit and you cook for them.

His mother doesn't eat anything except the salad.

She helps you clear the table later and asks if you'd like her to show you how to make her son's favorite meal later.  Says her son misses good cooking.

This is why more people are choosing to shop elsewhere.  Saving a couple of dollars makes it hard to look the cashiers in the eye knowing they don't make a living wage while the Walton family continue to rake in generational wealth.  Folks are getting tired of greedy people.

Sit ups and Crunches

Increasingly I'm reading that sit ups and crunches don't work as well as we think they do.  I do crunches all the time and well...I guess I don't agree with them.  Sure planks burn more and the modified types of planks make you want to give up on life...but I honestly feel like I get a lot out of my crunches.

What about you?  Do you do sit ups and crunches?  (I stopped doing full sit ups forever ago because of my back.)  Do you believe you benefit from doing them?  In your opinion...what works best on YOUR abs?

Aging Skin and Moisturizers

I had so many conversations about discoloration and skin yesterday I could sign up for an aesthetician course and be a start student on day one.  ONLY on day one mind you.

One conversation centered around how over 40 skin can look and feel dryer than we're used to and it was determined that the only thing that helps with that is regular exercise for increased circulation and moisturizing with a GOOD moisturizer daily before your skin is completely dry out of the shower.  Never scrub your skin dry with the towel.  Pat it dry and when you're putting on your lotion...kinda massage it in with circular motions like they do when you're getting a massage.

I buy the Intensive Repair one with the green lid.  

One thing you shouldn't ever skip is moisturizing your skin.  When your skin is extra dry it itches.  When it itches you scratch and scratching can leave marks.  Keeping it moisturized also helps scars fade quicker and well...your skin looks healthier.

Also...a little dab of vitamin E mixed in with your normal lotion will help if you have dark spots.  It's thick as all get out so a little dab will do ya just fine.

We have to take care of ourselves because we all know that when we look good we feel good and vice versa.  We have to FOCUS on keeping our stride STANK!
