My brother gave me this vase a long time ago and it holds sentimental value. I used to keep it under the spot where we hang our keys and keys have dropped once or fifty times and cracked it around the rim.
But I wasn't getting rid of my vase.
A woman told me how to make a mercury finish on glass and I decided to give it a try and I think I like it!
So...you buy this mirror paint from Home Depot. She told me it was called Looking Glass, but they didn't have that (I'm wondering if the end result would have made a difference had I been able to find exactly what she told me or whether or not they are the same-ish):
Then...you spray the container down really well with water:
Next...paint and let dry:
Me likey! I'm going to find a really nice plant with awesome leaf color to sit in it! I want the foliage to drape so you can't see the chips along the rim. I'm super, super excited about this one! The next time I do it, I'm going to spray a little lighter if that makes any sense. I also read that I can use vinegar and water to smudge some of it off in areas to make it look even more mercury-ish but I like it as is.
What I would do differently? *sigh* I did a straight Monnie-ism:
Joy. LOL!
This was a pretty cool project. I think I'm going to get some throw away vases and practice more because I could totally see a tablescape with lots of bud vases of differing heights and different types of flowers. Sounds cool huh?
If you try this...let me know how it worked out for you!
