The Robinator and I had a full schedule last week so we didn't get to see the movie and wanted to get a good hike in today since he's traveling tomorrow. We still wanted to see the movie so we caught the first showing Saturday morning at 9:45am. We got up, had breakfast and rolled out for a cost of only $6.50 each for a total of $13.00. *BLINK* Since we'd just had breakfast, he didn't want popcorn. Like...we saw a movie, two people, for $13.00. ONLY. Usually it costs us between $40 and $45. Seriously.
Okay...moving on.
The movie started with me dancing in my seat. The opening song is one that I knew but didn't "know" ya know? Like...whenever I hear it I rock. Shoulders shake, neck dip, stupid grin, all of that.
It was pretty sad opening up to Peter's mommy's death, but I soon had more questions and, some of them went unanswered. Where, oh where, is his father and who, oh who is he?
I loved watching Zoe Saldana kick butt as Gamora. Would have loved seeing more of her and her sister's backstory but I can see how they didn't have time for it. I did wonder how in the world she dealt with being painted green all day, every day. I bet that was a bit of a challenge that kinda pales in comparison to checking her bank account balances you know?
Yeah...you know.
Chris Pratt brought me complete joy as Peter. He was basically himself. LOL! He strikes me as a funny, cool, laid back kinda guy just like Peter. I've decided that whenever I want to say something profound from now on I'm going to say, "I am Groot" and then sit back and wait for someone to answer me as if I answered their question. Yup.
Friend: Monnie, what is the meaning of life?
Me: I am Groot.
Friend: Yeah...that's what I think too. That's for helping me realize that.
Or...
Friend: Monnie should we fight this battle?
Me: I am Groot.
Friend: Yeah...we need more guns and stuff. I'll call Pookie and Earl 'nem.
Robby: Man...they didn't need Vin Diesel for that role. Anybody could have played that role. I could have played that role.
We all know that the raccoon, Rocket, straight up stole the show. He was straight up SIP in action. Diabolical, snarky and cheeky as hell. But he always came through and he REALLY came through for his framily.
The evil stuff was evil and the meanies were mean. The meanie turned good guy however? Drax? LOVED, LOVED, LOVED HIM! His straight up grammar snark brought me JOY!
Drax is like that dude who does NOT care! He's a badazz and he knows it. Dude got drunk and called up like the dude who wants to destroy the world. Just...say bruh...you want us? We are over here. BRANG YA AZZ!
I loved how his character didn't understand irony or satire and was serious as hell. LOL! When Gamora's sister insulted her in front of him and he pulled his version of the Hulk smash? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! OH YEAH! BRING THE HEAT BABY!
All-in-all the movie was super entertaining and extremely funny. I was surprised at just how much we laughed. We did notice that a lot of the younger people didn't laugh as much as we did and figured out that the humor went over their head because it was something straight up from our childhood or for our generation. That was cool that they included our demographic. There was more than enough for the kids to enjoy so I'm glad we got a lil' something something too.
It was PG-13 so I was surprised to find how many parents brought their much younger kids to see it. I'm talking 5 and 6 years old but hey...I guess if a parent is with them then it's all good right?
I give this movie a solid B+.
