Yesterday I was at the gym and couldn't find my workout card.
I looked myself and then had two someones look for me.
No dice.
I was told I'd have to get another workout card made and that I could schedule an appointment with a trainer to make a new one next week.
Me: That's not happening. I need my card today. You guys put the cards away so my card should be here right?
I was then told a trainer couldn't do it for me now because they didn't have time.
Me: I understand, I'd like to speak with a manager please.
The manager came and walked to the back and brought out a stack of cards.
My card was in there.
I thanked duded and continued with my strength training portion of my workout.
And THAT'S why dude is a manager.
I hate people with the types of attitudes that makes it all about them and what their PERSONAL schedule can accomodate even though they are in a customer service industry or providing service of some type to someone. Irks the pig ish outta me. Folks wonder why they don't get promotions or they don't get moved up the ladder OR...they get fired. Well dude...it's because you don't go that extra. That extra separates you from the GREAT employees. That extra makes it so it's a joy for people to work with you. That extra makes it so that whenever something major is going on...your name is on the list.
That extra is your spotlight.
We were shooting a movie and I looked over and saw one of the extras breaking down some equipment with crew. WOW.
That extra will ALWAYS be on my list.
Our Producer ALWAYS brings a sport jacket to sets just in case we need some crossover action from a guy in a jacket that we haven't used yet. Robby? Dude brings casual clothes, business clothes, etc. Just in case. When something needs doing...he digs in and gets it done. My girls Becca and Pam always show up whenever they can to be an extra. Whenever they see me looking puzzled they ask what they can get for me. They will always, always, ALWAYS be on my list.
SPOTLIGHT.
I don't like it when folks give me issues pertaining to them when asked to do something relatively simple. It's like...why even start off listing negatives before you even take the time to think it through? There could be a possible good reason and/or solution to the problem that you could have resolved without a whole lot of lip.
I worked with someone once who always had an excuse for doing something I didn't like. The work they did was okay once they did it the way I wanted it done...but there was always some lip action.
Me: I don't like _____. Please fix it by doing _____.
Them: I did that because _______ and ______.
Me: *BLINK* Please fix it by doing _____.
The conversation SHOULD have gone:
Me: I don't like _____. Please fix it by doing _____.
Them: Okay.
Simple.
Egos and attitudes and making it all about you is not the way to be a team player. Remind yourself of this often. Check yourself before someone has to take the time to check you.
Do YOU have that EXTRA?
