Day before yesterday I bought a new washer and dryer. I did it the way I always make major purchases by getting pissed off with the OLD washer and dryer and decided they needed to be replaced. You know...cuz that's how my irrational behind gets down-t.
I already knew what we wanted but we just hadn't pulled the trigger cuz seriously...who enjoys washer/dryer shopping?
So I get there with my measurements of my laundry closet and know how much space I have. The loveliest gentleman helps me and we spend an hour making sure I got the best deal for what I was willing to spend. Mr. P was one of those gentile types. You know...one of those older, soft spoken, quick smiling guys from an island with that lovely sing-songy lilt to his voice. He made me laugh and smile the entire time I was there. He was AWESOME! So awesome that I got his card so that I could make sure he helped me when we need to buy new kitchen appliances.
Today the washer/dryer was delivered and the guy came in with his measuring thingy and immediately knew there would be a problem.
Why you ask?
Because the idiot who measured the space didn't take into consideration the damn dryer vent hose thingy in the back.
That idiot you ask?
Me, of course.
So it had to go back to the store.
Later, I went back to Sears to pick out a combo that actually fit my laundry closet. When I got there...I asked for the same gentleman who helped me, Mr. P. I was told he was off today by the manager of the department. Cool. I told him what was going on and he said he'd get someone else to help me. The way he said it made me go Hmmmmmmmmmmm so I asked if Mr. P would still get credit for the sale.
Him: No.
Me: Why?
Him: Because he's not here.
So I tell him that Mr. P gave me exemplary service and that I didn't think it was fair that he wouldn't get credit. Dude was like...
Dude: Well he messed up the order anyway and I'm going to talk to him about that.
Me: How'd he mess up the order?
Him: They didn't fit. That was his fault. He should have helped you better.
Me: Um...no. The mistake in not taking into consideration how much room was needed for the vent hose was my fault. NOT Mr. P's. He shouldn't get into trouble for that. That's just crazy! He could only go by what I told him.
Dude: Well if someone else helps you it's not fair that they don't get credit. It's their time.
Me: Well then you need to help me so he can get credit.
And then dude said something that set my damn teeth on edge.
Asshole: No. I'm not going to do that because if I do it for him then I'm going to have to do it for others and I'm not about to do that.
And my mouth dropped open cuz I was STUNNED.
This dude is a MANAGER.
This dude has a STAFF.
He then said that if I wanted Mr. P to get the sale then I could come back tomorrow when he was there but if I bought it today...he would NOT get credit for the sale.
This dude is a GRADE A ASSHOLE.
I left and went to the office and asked to speak to the store manager. When I was told that the store manager wasn't there I asked that he be called. He told the manager who called him to get my number and he'd call me tomorrow because he was driving and didn't have an earpiece.
The manager I was speaking with decided to go to the washer/dryer section and help me and make sure Mr. P still had his sale.
We get over there and we're talking. Dude strolls up like she's pissing on his turf. I don't even remember what he said but I was READY!
Yall...I have to be honest here when I say I showed out as only Dominique Devereaux would do. I told him how rude and disrespectful it was to listen to him throw his employee under the bus. I told him that a REAL manager would instill loyalty in his team by making sure that his employees could count on him to look out for them when they were off. I told him that I thought it was disgusting that he would cheat someone out of their commission and that it was obvious he was a horrible person.
I said some other stuff too but I ended with: You're an asshole.
The other manager stood by and let us "discuss" it and once I was finished I turned to her and she helped me. It should be noted that one of the employees there came over and GLADLY helped to make sure Mr. P got his sale all the while the dumbazz manager was pretending like he wasn't shamed for being called out publicly.
When he walked off and was out of sight...several of his employees gave me thumbs up and two came up to tell me that it was AWESOME seeing someone finally give it to him for being an azz. I told them I was sorry they had to work for dude.
And then I wondered...Why DO they have to work for such an obvious butthole? So...yeah...on my way home I called corporate and gave them the rundown and I'm going to follow up with the store manager as well. The other sales guy showed me on my receipt where I could find Mr. P's number to prove that he did, in fact, put it under his name. I thanked him graciously and left.
When Mr. P comes in tomorrow I'm sure they will tell him what went down. I might just even roll through to make sure ASSHOLE didn't try and give him any shit because of my mistake and my subsequent tagging of his azz for not being fair. I hope Mr. P feels good knowing that I wouldn't let dude cheat him during his absence. Shit...times IZ hard man. Ain't nobody got time to be cheated out of their commission.
I'm just saying.
Would YOU have made sure Mr. P still got all or at least PART of the sale or would you have just let the manager give it to someone else?
